Urban95 Learning Exchange – Learnings from Jabalpur & Warangal

The 2nd webinar of the series, highlighted the success stories of 2 cities from the Nurturing Neighbourhood Challenge – Jabalpur and Warangal, in their efforts towards developing a network of open spaces with age-appropriate play opportunities across the city. The webinar showcased Jabalpur’s journey of translating their vision of developing a city-wide network of inclusive play spaces for all, through systematic scaling of public spaces. Jabalpur’s community-driven transformation of parks has been instrumental in creating safe, inclusive, and family-friendly public spaces across various neighbourhood parks, pocket parks and play spaces in ECD facilities.

The webinar also showcased Warangal’s scale up approach towards providing a thoughtfully curated network of age-specific play spaces across different neighbourhoods in the city, especially in vulnerable communities. The city is utilized strategies such as convergence with various state-level schemes, diverse partnerships, and active community engagement towards achieving their goal. In doing that, the city has successfully modelled an approach for designing play spaces with natural and unstructured play, and addressing social behavior change to ensure maximum usage and a sense of ownership among the community.
